Adventure log of Dr Tom - #549

Acerola and I decided to set up camp for the evening on the outskirts of the meadow where we had observed the Morelull and Beedrill earlier that day. The night drifted away and we were both able to get some sleep, undisturbed by the myriad Pokémon species that frequented the area.

In the morning we took a meagre breakfast of fruit and water from our canteens. Despite our perpetually empty stomachs, the beauty of the meadow and the near constant commute of Pokèmon going about their business kept us both in high spirits. We decided to stay another day here, to observe what we could of the behaviour of the various species and to learn how each interacted with one another.

In our position along the tree line, we were perfectly placed to see the entirety of the meadow and we had an almost three hundred and sixty degree view of all the comings and goings that took place. By midday, we had observed over fifty individual species, all of which had come to the meadow either to play and relax, or to partake of the bounty of nectar produced by the wonderful array of flowers that bloomed throughout.

As the sun reached its highest point in the sky, the meadow was full to bursting with Pokémon and I felt a palpable aura of anticipation on the gentle breeze wafting through the air. It was clear that the Pokèmon were waiting for something; many chittered happily to each other and a group of young Bulbasaur looked about ready to explode with excitement.

After a few minutes of observation, I began to smell an intoxicatingly sweet scent in the air. The effect it had on me was fascinating; I felt all the tension in my body wash away and my eyes were drawn to the centre of the meadow, where all the waiting Pokémon were watching in complete silence. Petals of a soothing lilac began to drift down from above the canopy and they collected in a pile in the centre of the circle.

Then, as if by magic, a slender Pokémon rose up from the petals, like a Wailord breaching the surface of the ocean. When it had reached its full height, it bent its knees in a plié and proceeded to gracefully raise one leg behind its back. From this impeccably poised position, it began to spin, whipping the petals into a whirlwind and sending them dancing through the air like snowflakes inside a snow globe.

It was a Lilligant, but its form was unlike that of the species native to the Unova region. It was much taller and not so protected by its usual layer of dress-like petals. I had only ever seen the Pokémon looking like this during my research on the Hisui region. How it had made its way to this island, I did not know, but it was magnificent to see this beautiful Pokémon in person.
