Sniper Elite - Teamwork is essential!
Written by Die Rollin' - Sep 12 2022
It’s World War 2 and the Allies are trying to get the upper hand over the Axis, their ace in the hole is their Sniper who’s been deployed behind enemy lines in attempt to achieve 2 objectives to help win the war.
One player will assume the role of the Sniper and will be moving in secret around the board attempting to achieve their 2 goals. They’ve got 3 items to assist them in their task ranging from making movement easier for them without alerting the enemy, moving enemies around or straight up killing some.
The other players will take on the roll of the three groups of German soldiers who are attempting to locate the Sniper and attack them twice to eliminate the threat, or delay the sniper so they cannot achieve their objectives in the time limit. Each team has a special officer who have their own special abilities to assist against the sneaky sniper, ranging from deploying dogs (which can’t be killed btw), attacking adjacent spaces and even having a sniper of their own.
The game comes with a double sided board showing a different location on either side, there’s the launch facility which is outdoors with a train yard or a sub pen which is very claustrophobic but has upper level gantries to patrol or sneak through.
The sniper has their own board which is a miniature version of the main board where they’ll be recording their movements with a dry wipe pen. Bafflingly they don’t include a screen to hide the snipers board with, so you’ll have to use the box lid to hide your movements.
The Sniper can do two actions on their turn including moving 0-1 or 2-3 spaces, using a card or shooting – where you’ll draw tokens from a bag (As many tokens as you like but to hit you’ll need to have at least as many tokens as there are spaces towards your target) and if you draw enough aim tokens you succeed. However there are multiple noise tokens in the bag and if at least two come out you have to reveal your position on the map.
When moving you cannot move through a German soldier if you’re the sniper, but you can move past them. If you move 0-1 spaces, you don’t have to tell the enemy you’ve moved, however if you start/move past/end next to an enemy soldier when you’ve moved 2-3 spaces, you have to tell the enemy team that that/those soldiers heard something.
Team work is essential!
The Good: really balanced gameplay, great theme, true to the video game it’s adapting
The Bad: No screen for the sniper!
Overall: Buy this game, it’s a fantastic hidden movement game with great components.
