Resident Evil : The Board Game
Looking for a survival horror board game set in a spooky mansion full of zombies and worse? Boy do Steam Forged Games have the game for you then!

Resident Evil : The Board game is an adaptation of the first video game in the Resident Evil Franchise and is a faithful representation of the source material. It’s not often you get a game where the theme and mechanics marry up, but they this is one of those games that does it right.

This is actually the 3rd game in the resident evil board game series, and this is the best of the bunch. They’ve clearly listened to feedback from the other titles and really embraced the horror element of the original video game, whereas the other two felt more action orientated.

You’ll choose on one of four characters and attempt to escape the mansion. You start off with only a few areas of the mansion open for exploration, these initially scenarios do a good job at teaching you the rules.

Once you’ve selected a scenario, you lay out a few map tiles and start playing. As you explore the map, you’ll open doors that put more tiles down and it’s a lovely feeling of genuine exploration as you place each new tile and token down.

You’re in a race against time to complete your objectives but you have backup, there are several survivors in the mansion who you can unlock who will help you by doing side missions. The side missions can go pear shaped though and end up killing your backup, but they can also give you really good bonuses.

At the end of each scenario you’ll unlock new areas to explore in the mansion, gain keys and upgrades to assist your escape and also increase the danger level of the mansion which can really notch up the tension when you’re playing. Previous games I’ve used a strategy of running past most enemies, but this time around the danger increases if there’s a certain amount of zombies on the board, and each zombie if you do decide to kill them, leaves a corpse which in turn can add cards to the game which bring tougher enemies.

All in all, this game is fantastic fun and SFG have really managed to nail the gameplay and theme with this title. Highly recommend.
